To Mother with love

Hi!

      I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I’ve been  quilling again and made this square easel card with quilled flowers for mum on her 83^rd birthday.

This is my first attempt at quilled folded roses and daisies. Other than straining my eyes to cut the fringe very fine for the daisies, I enjoyed making them all. I wanted a basket of flowers for mum and came up with this version. I used thin strips in two shades of brown to weave it, then mounted it on 3D foam for dimension. As it still looked quite flat, I added a semi-circular piece of card paper to the base. I didn’t feel like quilling the leaves, so I added punched ferns instead. The base of the card is textured handmade paper which feels like wafer. The sentiment is printed and dabbed with a moistened tea bag to blend with the base.

I’ve been quilling……

Hi!

      I hope all is well with my crafty friends. My 14yr old son, returned sick from school yesterday, unable to retain anything in his stomach and was all drained out. So, I was kept busy trying to get him up and about as he had to go back to school in the evening for the dress rehearsal of Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’ the school is staging for the next two days and he is the cast member. The headmistress was kind to permit him to be there just in time for his act and leave soon after and he just managed. He’s much better today and should be fine tomorrow. 

      I’m here today, to share my fourth quilled card. Although I’d purchased a quilling tool and strips from India 5 yrs ago, I never bothered to give it a try. I was inspired to quill after I came across the first quilling blog DAYDREAMS. And came up with this butterfly, then spiral quilled roses and a flower. I had trouble with the Indian quilling tool, so I asked my SIL in UK to send me one and she sent me the set by 'Quilled Creations'. These are great to work with and I now enjoy quilling. To try my new tool, I simply quilled a flower, then a butterfly and many more flowers. After I found the challenge at “Take a Quill Pill”, I quilled the second butterfly and made this card.

I used handmade flower petal paper for the base and added paper strips around the border. The computer generated sentiment was dabbed with a moistened tea bag to match the colors on the background, then, hand embossed the two hearts on it with my improvised tools (heart shaped paper clip and pen) and colored with a felt tip pen. I’ll be back here very soon with another quilled card.   Till then, take care.

Happy Birthday Sis!!

Hi!  

       Thanks to you all for your much appreciated comments and good wishes after my last post. Feb. has been good so far. My BIL was here from Canada with loads of chocolates (I was about to mention the variety, but on second thought decided not to ;) ) My SIL also sent me some rub-on stickers and a clear alphabet stamp, which I can now use to print the sentiments. It’s my first clear stamp and I love it. Only problem, the stamp pad available here will surely stain it. Can those of you who stamp kindly suggest which make I should use? Perhaps, I could ask a friend coming from the US this weekend to get it for me. That reminds me; I won a giveaway from Amy Jo in the US, which he’s bringing along as I’ll never receive it directly by mail here. Hmm! The last bit of news is that my birthday was on 17^th. A busy day answering phone calls, but, I had my treat on 16^th being a public holiday here.

      Today, I’m here to wish my sis on her 60^th birthday. Now, don’t think we’re close in age. She’s the second and I’m the fourth, last and years….apart. This reminds me of a doctor I worked with, teasing me as ‘the last drop’ lol. So, here’s my card. Take a look and try to guess what it’s made of before you proceed.

I used four chocolate wrappers for the base of the card. We had these sometime ago. They were Malaysian made, with an awful taste, but, a beautiful wrapper. I meant to conceal the line joining the papers with the black ribbon, but, this morning I realized I didn’t do so. That’s the result of not completing it in daylight and wearing my old glasses which have a lower power as I find them more comfortable. I hope you don’t find the fault. 

Anyway it’s only for my sis.

The flower petals were individually cut out from a ‘Lindt’ chocolate pralines tray. I mounted eight petals on foam tape for the first layer, eight for the second, then, four for the third and fourth. In all 24 petals and reduced in size for each layer. A red rhinestone was used for the centre. The flourishes, leaves and ‘60’ were drawn and cut out from gold paper. The flourish appears very much like the letter ‘L’ and incidentally my sister’s name is Loretta. 

      My source of inspiration for this card (flower) is my mother. Mum’s been teaching flower making for the past six decades, and always had the habit of collecting and making flowers with all sorts of stuff. I don’t think she’d made one from a chocolate tray, so I’m very happy I made a flower embellishment she’d not done before.

I'm back!

Hello!

      My sincere apologies to most of my lovely friends here for not visiting you’ll. It’s been a while since I last posted too. January didn't start off very well for me. First I had problems with the internet connection for almost 10 days. No sooner that was sorted out, my 'C' drive crashed due to which, I lost a lot stuff including family pics and some favorite links I'd bookmarked. Next, I was down with "The Flu", which really drained me out L. I finally recovered over the weekend and I'm back with a love card J.

The base of the card is pearlised cardstock which I manually embossed with improvised tools (a heart shaped paper clip & the back of a pen :D) It’s my first attempt at embossing and I’m quite pleased with the  result. The two hearts cut out from gold cardstock, were layered. One with canvas used for cross stitch and the other with handmade choir paper with a little glitter sprinkled over it. The hearts were then overlapped and tied with gold cord along with a handmade charm (bubble stick-on over ‘50’ printed on gold card) Used a heart border punch to make the lacy border below. The sentiment was printed and I designed and embossed my little tag with the heart shaped paper clip.

      I’ve no clue when I’ll be back here with another card as the next two weeks will be busy with my BIL here from Canada. Besides, my computer has also been working with fits and starts. I’ve been told that the ‘C’drive has some bad sectors and needs to be replaced. I will have it done hopefully soon and then try my best to visit a few of you each day. It’s a New Year!!

Hello!

    Here's a new card to welcome a new baby girl and a warm welcome to all my new blogging friends.

    I enjoy making shaped cards. When I first began blogging, I’d seen a simple ‘U’ shaped bib card on some blog and  felt like making one my own way, when my cousin had her baby, 'Jane'. 

To make this, I drew a ‘U’ shape, and then drew scallops around it using the template of different sized circles as a guide.  Drawing the inner shape was no easy task at all. I have no clue as to how many paper drafts I made and discarded until I was satisfied. Yes, I’m a very determined crafter. If I have pictured a certain way of doing something, I have to do it, no matter what. Well, having done my paper drafts, I cut the outer shape on a piece of folded card stock and the inner shape on a chequered paper recently sent from India, using my only and favorite tool “scissors”. New rub-on transfers sent from Canada were used to embellish it. I had to slightly cut the center scallop in order to make the card stand.  

For the inside, I used paper of a lighter shade to print the verse, made and cut the shape  in the same way and lightly highlighted the scalloped edge with a color pencil.
