   I really enjoyed making this card with my new toys...The Ranger heat tool which enabled me to us the puffy paints today. The paints were bought years ago for my daughter, surprisingly they were not dry and I really liked the effect on the branches. I'd tried using the hair dryer in the past but the result was unsatisfactory. I’m also very delighted to be the owner of a die cut machine at last! As I had won a couple of dies previously, I had my daughter order the big shot; a few basic essentials like the cutting mat, a score tool and a few inks I had been longing for within my budget. At JoAnn’s Store, I was like a kid wanting all the toys, but as my children’s needs were more important than my wants, I just picked a few small items.

   For those of you who are not aware, craft supplies are not available here, if I order online and have it shipped to me it doesn’t reach. I lost packages thrice, since then I have my stuff sent to mailing addresses in USA or Canada, depending on the sender’s location and sent to me whenever family or friends visit. This time I brought it along. The wait is often long no doubt, but better than losing it.

Two 21st Birthday projects

Hello Friends!

    Hope all of you are well wherever you are. I’ve been on a hiatus for unavoidable reasons…a memorable, short, hectic 12 day trip to USA to leave my son at University, illness, computer problems and more and before I get busy around Christmas, I thought I better make an appearance on the blog & share the projects I made during my absence here.

    Today, I’d like to share two projects I made for my daughter’s 21^st birthday. Both were started here and completed at my friends place In Illinois before proceeding to Indiana. It was a surprise for my daughter but I managed to pass it to a friend of hers in my son’s dorm through a friend from her dorm without her knowledge. I later got in touch with her friends to instruct them which they did and she loved it.

My first project is a banner….

It was hung in her dorm room by her roomie and a friend when she left for dinner with the rest of her friends. 

Supplies used…

Card stock, holographic silver paper for rosettes, sheer ribbon & scalloped die cut circles & numbers. Both these were sent to me by Shirley-Ann from Stamping for Joy. A blog friend with a generous heart who always kept asking me what sort of supplies I needed. As I had this project in mind, I requested her to send me these die cuts, but she sent even more. Thank you very much Shirley-Ann.

My second project is an explosion box…

It was presented to her by her brother after they returned to the dorm for cake cutting and games. It was made with my daughter's pictures of the day she was born, christening, 3 months, 6 months followed by her birthdays, First Holy Communion and all the cakes I made for the themed parties she had (in all, 24 pictures on the innermost three layers of walls). On the outermost layer, on the inside I added a poem from her parents on one wall, separate ones from her brothers on the other two & just Happy Birthday on the last… all computer generated. The cake in the center was hollow with a surprise gift.

Supplies used…

Card stock, acrylic paint, scrapbook baby girl themed stickers, numerical stickers, paper towel roll, thick foam (leftover from upholstery), felt cloth, Offray metallic ribbon, Jolee’s boutique pearl flower gems, glue gun, Mini Bailey’s Irish Cream Liquor bottle, Lawn Fawn stamp-handmade with love, 21 key and satin ribbon.

   As the pictures were large, the box ended up into a 7x7 inch square (outermost walls) and reduced by 0.5 inches for the subsequent inner ones. After cutting the 4 layers and scoring  the lower edge of each wall, I sprayed the layers using a toothbrush, glued the 4 layers together, adhered the pictures, added stickers quotes, age and pictures on each layer. 

   For the cake I wrapped foam in two layers around the paper towel roll and an additional 3 inch wide layer for the lower tier cake. Next covered it with card stock, stuffed the surprise gift, covered with felt cloth, decorated with ribbon and flower gems. The liquor bottle was the cake topper with 21 sticker on it. 

   The outside of the box and lid were decorated with strips of scrapbook paper, then adhered the 21 key on top of the lid and finished off with a double bow.

   I must mention that as I forgot to pack up the supplies I meant to use to decorate, I ended up buying stuff from Walmart and JoAnn Fabric & Craft Store. In the process I also learnt that the custom of giving a key on the 21^st b’day is British which we too follow, while the American custom is liquor. I was thankful for accepting a bottle of liquor in-flight, enabling me to combine the British & American traditions. You may have also noticed that I used a blue colour scheme. That’s because Septembers birthstone is sapphire.

Movement/Flow

Hello!
    I'm back with Lesson # 3 - Movement/Flow homework done for MFT summer school. The card I'm going to share with you today is made for my daughter at university, with all sorts of encouraging quotes on the inside (not complete) which I feel are essential when they are miles and miles away from home. The image was coloured by her when she came home last summer.

  The image was fussy cut and adhered with foam tape. After completing this I felt I should have made an accordion fold card so it could sit open on her desk to view. Don't you think so too? I may redo this.

Rule of Thirds

Hi friends!
   Hope all of you are well wherever you are. Most are enjoying summer I'm sure unlike me as it's tooo hot and humid, while my Australian friends are freezing. I'm back to blog though busy, as MFT has summer school going on and I wanted to make the best of this opportunity. 
   The card I'm going to share was made a couple of months ago but not shared here and I thought it would be fitting for MFT lesson #1- Rule of Thirds. Most often I make my cards this way as it appealed to me, but never knew the concept behind it. 

Supplies used:

Butterfly & Sentiment - Anita's outline sticker (glued on parchment paper & coloured with copics)

Punch - Martha Stewart-Floral Lace

Gold paper - a strip glued on the inner edge of the card. The punched edge was cut shorter to reveal it.

Showers of dots with Pointilism

Hi!
    Today I'd like to share a card I'd made a couple of months ago. Pointlism is a technique of painting with dots of colour to form an image. Spaced out dots result in a lighter shade & those close together a darker shade. My kids learnt this in Grade 7 & I was eager to  try it too.

Happy Earth Day!

    Happy Earth Day to you all. Yesterday, as I looked through my folder of cards to be posted, I found this card I'd  made over three years ago for my grand nephew, but never shared as I felt I hadn't done much. However, today being Earth Day, I decided to share this card made using stuff which would have been discarded as thrash.

Keep Calm & Find Your Zen

Hello!
    So happy to be back soon and with a card for Unity's Friends with Flair once again. The image for today's card was also coloured by my dd. I'm sure she'll want the card for her roomie who practices Zen Meditation & I feel it would be a nice card to give her before she leaves for her study abroad program.

   The image was fussy cut after coloring it, the mat was stamped on DP, image glued over mat. Then the entire image was fixed on the DP that depicts the floor with foam tape. The Keep Calm strip is color A4 parer onto which I stamped the sentiment. The & was handwritten. I struggled most to get this sentiment placement right.

Easter Wishes with Mix Media.

Hello Friends!

    I'm here  today to share my first  ever mix media creation...an Easter card I sent  my daughter.

For Eggs-

    The inspiration for this card was from HERE. For the bunny, I used a stencil to cut the ovals but cut the ones of the ears narrower. For the tiara I cut a thin semi circular piece of green paper & added the negative cut outs of the floral edge punch after colouring them. Added a few fur curls which were ends of the punched swirl. Next I wanted to add greenery, found THIS lovely BoBunny scrapbook paper; but as I didn't want to cut it, I created the background using several mediums listed above. After a watercolour wash on the entire paper, I added some foliage with paint, aquarelles, stamps & stencil. For some texture used Gesso through a mesh screen & also some salt . As the upper half looked very plain, I stamped some birds & added a punched butterfly which I covered with a butterfly sticker and then coloured the uncovered portion with black. The eggs were stamped on dp & cut out. It was fun using mix media that even bunny dirtied her paw while I played around. Thanks to my extra generous blog friends for helping me make this creation possible.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!

Hi Friends!
    For each petal on the Shamrock, this brings a wish your way...Good health, good luck and happiness for today and everyday. 
    I'm back from hiatus to share a card I made for my dd at University in USA where St.Patrick's feast is celebrated on a grand scale. Besides, St.Partick is also the patron saint of our Parish here and I hope to have this card posted before I leave this evening for the celebration.

The computer generated Irish Prayer was printed on some paper from my stash. For quilling I used manually cut 3mm strips in two shades of green. Two teardrops for each petal and finished off with bling in the center.
